Motherhood is not easy! The task is fraught with uncertainty, anxiety, and overwhelming pressure from all sides of what is the 'right way' to parent. Through all this, motherhood is filled with joy and love! It creates a special relationship and bond with another soul that is like no other.
This week I had a great conversation with a friend on how our relationship to our parents change as we become more spiritually mature. In our minds we have the idea of the perfect mother. The mother who loves unconditionally, who is always present and available, who supports us in all our endeavors. It's no surprise our actual parents fall short of this ideal.
However that is as it should be. The true parent really lies within us. We often hear about the 'inner child' as we journey into our path of self-actualization. I'd like to offer that one of my biggest tools as an adult is my inner parent.
Do I show myself unconditional love, total support, gentle acceptance, and meaningful nurturing?
